Al Khelaifi clinches the QTCC championship for third time
Qatar’s Abdullah Al Khelaifi was crowned for third time in a row the Qatar Touring Car Championship Champion this weekend with total points of 186 in the final standings.Al Khelaifi already secured the championship in the last round and although there was no pressure for him, he won both races. All the pressure was for Hamad Al Asam and Adham El Dib who were fighting for the second place in the championship.‘’It was a great championship, it was really fun, no pressure so I did whatever I can as I had nothing to lose. First race was easier for me as I started from the front row but in the second race, with the reverse grid I did my best and took any chance I get and that was the key because if you wait little bit then it becomes very hard to overtake. It was a really challenging championship with so many drivers to fight and I was the most consistent so that was what secured the title for me’ said Al Khelaifi. In the first race, although Al Asam had the pole position, he didn’t had a good start and Al Khelaifi took the lead from the first lap until the end. Al Asam finished second and John Ralph finished in third place, his first ever podium. Adham El Dib had a problem with the gear box and finished in fifth place, so at that moment, he already lost the second place in the championship.‘It is unbelievable, I changed the whole set up of the car from the third round and it worked perfectly and start coming to the podium. I pushed the last two rounds and in this last round, the second place of the championship was between Adham and myself. In the first race I started good and fought with Al Khelaifi but I did a mistake and he passed me so decided to keep the second place and bring the car safe’ said Al Asam.‘In the second race, I was already second overall so I had more fun and no pressure. Overall it was a successful season and hope next one is much better and we fight for the championship’ ended Al Asam.In the second race, with the reverese grid Al Khalaifi took again the victory and Asam finished second. Adham El Dib completed the podium.‘I had a good qualifying session on Friday but at the beginning of the first race, I lost the fourth gear again and I spanned, so I stayed out of the track for a second to check that I had the rest of the gears and the car was working and finished fifth. In the second race, I started knowing that I don’t have fourth gear so I knew that I was going to be very slow so my strategy was to let Abdullah and Hamad pass and let Ahmed Al Kuwari behind me and it worked so very happy to finish third overall this season’ stated El Dib.Trophies were presented by Mr. Abdulrazak Al Kuwari, QMMF General Secretary.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
