April Recap: Lusail International Circuit Celebrates Champions and Fuels The Future
April proved to be another action-packed month at Lusail International Circuit (LIC), featuring a perfect balance of world-class motorsport action and community-focused events that further cemented the venue's reputation as Qatar's premier motorsport and entertainment destination.
The highlight of the month was undoubtedly the 2025 MotoGP™ Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar held from April 11-13, which drew more than 50,000 spectators across the three-day event. The fourth round of the 77th FIM Road Racing World Championship marked the 21st edition of MotoGP™ at LIC since the circuit first hosted the championship in 2004. Marc Marquez from Ducati Lenovo Team demonstrated exceptional skill to claim victory in the main race, with his teammate Francesco Bagnaia securing second place and Franco Morbidelli completing the podium.
The event featured thrilling competition across multiple categories, including the Tissot Sprint race where the Marquez brothers dominated with Marc taking victory ahead of brother Alex. Spectators were also treated to exciting races in Moto2™, Moto3™, and the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup. The Fan Zone buzzed with activity throughout the weekend, offering simulator experiences, go-karting sessions, illusion shows, live music performances, and opportunities for fans to meet their favorite riders through the Fan Forum and Hero Walk.
In a celebration of motorsport excellence, LIC hosted a special evening honoring the remarkable 25-year career of Nasser Al Kuwari, one of Qatar's finest sporting ambassadors. The event was attended by distinguished guests including Abdulrahman Al Mannai, President of the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation, who recognized Al Kuwari's profound impact on Qatar's motorsport history.
Community engagement remained a key focus in April, with LIC hosting its second successful Open Track Days for both car and motorcycle enthusiasts on 26th April. The dual-format event gave motorsport fans the unique opportunity to experience the same iconic 5.38km circuit that hosts international championships, welcoming over 50 participants from Qatar and the GCC region. Continuing its commitment to community access, LIC hosted a Mixed Training Day on April 30, offering a unique opportunity to cycle, run, or walk on the Formula 1® track. The three-hour evening session created a vibrant atmosphere attracting over 300 enthusiasts.
The month concluded with the Qatar Karting Championship Round 1 held from April 28-29, providing an exciting platform for emerging drivers to demonstrate their skills and further developing Qatar's grassroots motorsport talent pipeline. The Grand Final saw Aleksei Guzov claim victory, with Danish Qureshi securing second place and Mohammed Al Thani rounding out the podium in third position.
These April events collectively highlight LIC's commitment to providing a comprehensive motorsport experience, from hosting international championships to celebrating local heroes and offering community access initiatives.
