LUSAIL, QATAR — 06 October 2023 — The curtain rose on the FORMULA 1 QATAR AIRWAYS QATAR GRAND PRIX 2023 at the new state-of-the-art Lusail International Circuit (LIC) yesterday. The occasion was marked by an unprecedented number of attendees, filled with excitement and a lively atmosphere.

 

The inaugural day was characterized by a free practice session and the crucial Qualifying Session for the final race scheduled for Sunday. Drivers were able to familiarize themselves with the circuit during the practice session. Their primary goal was to test the readiness of the cars, particularly under challenging weather conditions marked by robust winds, necessitating strategic shifts to secure optimal outcomes. The session saw drivers push their limits, aiming for peak performances that would propel them to the Qualifying Session.

 

As dusk settled, anticipation reached new heights as fans were treated to a thrilling qualifying session, determining the pole positions for the Grand Prix. In a fiercely competitive setting, Max Verstappen clinched the fastest lap, securing the coveted top spot for Sunday's race.

 

The fan zone was a hive of activity, blending cultural and entertainment pursuits suitable for all age groups. Highlights included captivating visual narratives of Formula 1's journey in Qatar, mesmerizing LED Light shows, and immersive events echoing Qatar's rich heritage, best exemplified by the aromatic allure of Arabic coffee and displays of Oud and Bakhoor. Attendees tested their skills in an array of challenges, from the Batak Challenge and the Buzz Wire Game to RC Car Racing and Formula 1 simulators. The evening reached its peak with a captivating performance by the renowned Egyptian artist, Amr Diab.

 

Today, fans await the inaugural "Sprint Race” hosted for the first time in Qatar and the Middle East. LIC joins Azerbaijan, Austria, Belgium, The United States, and Brazil in hosting “Sprint Race” this season. The "Sprint Shootout" qualifying round will determine the race's pole positions. This particular race commands global attention, potentially deciding the 2023 Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship title. It promises attendees a spectacle of unmatched competitive fervor, velocity, and passion, marked by captivating showdowns between drivers.

 

The Lusail International Circuit's remodeling has left an unforgettable mark on attendees and participants.
