Double win in the opening round with a lot of action for Saeed Al Sulaiti and Jassim Al Thani
Al Sulaiti wins second race starting from grid due to a crash in the sighting lapQatar’s Saeed Al Sulaiti had a great and incredible performance at the opening round of the Qatar Supersock 600 winning both races of the weekend in a dramatic second race.In the first race, Saeed Al Sulaiti, who got the Superpole on Friday, managed to take the lead after the first lap and pulled until the end of the race, crossing the checkered flag with a gap of 30.581 ahead of Mishal Al Naimi.Al Naimi finished in second place and had a battle with the Hungarian rider Balint Kovacs who came third in the podium. Abdullah Al Qubaisi who crashed in the third lap in turn 10, managed to rejoin the race and finished in sixth place.In the QSTK Trophy, Jassim Al Thani, who finished fourth overall, took the victory in his category. Al Thani, who started in fifth place on the grid, had a great performance and for some laps, he was in third place in the front. Kuwaiti riders Mohammed Al Zaidan and Ali Abdulhussain ended second and third in the QSTK Trophy category respectively.In the second race of the round, Saeed Al Sulaiti had to start from the back of the grid due to he crashed in the sighting lap as he went out losing the front tyre. Al Sulaiti managed to be back to the pit and the mechanics had time to fix his bike and start the race.Al Qubaisi took the lead of the second race during the first fourth laps with Mishal Al Naimi in his back but in the fifth lap, Al Sulaiti overtook them and stayed in the front until the end of the race. Al Qubaisi came second and Al Naimi third in the podium.Another victory for Jassim Al Thani in the second race at the QSTK Trophy category with Mohammed Al Zaidan in second place as in race 1. This time, Qatar’s Hassan Al Mansoori completed the QSTK Trophy podium.At the end of the round, Al Sulaiti was extremely happy with his results today ‘I am really happy to start the season with a victory a double win. In first race, I managed to made a good gap with the group behind so I decided not to push too much and stay in the bike and finish the race.’‘In the second race, in the sighting lap I noticed I didn’t have too much grip and I lost the rear and did a high side. It was a big crash, I hurt my toe and came back to the pit to fix my bike. Many thanks to the LCSC mechanics who did a great job in short time and I started the race from the back of the grid. Many thanks to my team, mechanics, Lusail Circuit Sports Club, QMMF and Ooredoo for their support’ said Al Sulaiti.Mishal Al Naimi, now second in the overall standings, didn’t manage to fix his problem with the front tyre ‘’Finish second in the first race was very good for me. I did some changes in the clutch during the race and I did some mistake so went out of the track two times, losing time and then Kovacks and Al Thani passed me, but, I got again the pace and finished in second place.’‘In the second race I tried to improve my bike and solve the problems I had since the official practice with the front tyre. Even I did the best lap time of the week I tried to push but I didn’t feel good after four laps and I couldn’t stay in the front. Mechanics worked very good in the set up but let’s see if in the next round we can solve the problem with the front tyre’ said Al Naimi.Young rider Abdulla Al Qubaisi is improving in each round and had a great start in race 2 ‘In the first race, I went to the gravel when I was pushing too hard with the front group but luckily I rejoined and finish sixth. In the second race, I did a good start and I lead the race for four laps but when Saeed passed me I could only stayed behind and finish second’.Good results for Jassim Al Thani who took also the double win in the QSTK Trophy ‘Overall the weekend was very good and the preparation in the off season is working very well. I did my best lap time today, 2.07.9 and that is very good. In the first race I was battling in the front with the QSTK riders and finished fourth overall and in the second race, I was a bit tired but managed to create a gap and also finish first in my category’ said Al Thani.Kuwaiti rider Mohammed Al Zaidan is very happy with his performance in the weekend ‘The results of today are very good for me.
